Understanding auto warranties and service

As one gets older, his medical expenses also rise. Having a health insurance policy pays for all those expenses. Similar is the case of a new car. It requires regular repair and maintainance costs which may blow your pocket as your car gets older. Therefore, you need warranty and extended warranty for your car.

When buying a car, the dealer provides you with a warranty letter stating some of the obligations and promises of the car which will be covered in future by the dealer and the letter stands for a limited period of time.

In simple terms, an auto warranty is a guarantee that it will work as said and any kind of technical breakown or malfunctioning of it will be the sole responsibility of the dealer or the company as who signs the letter of warranty. The company takes responsibility of the car for a limited period of time after which any clause under the warranty becomes void. Generally all companies provide bumper to bumper warranty which covers whole car except some wear and tear. It covers warranty for engine and it’s parts, electrical items,

transmission, drive axle and other internal parts , brakes, various parts of the steering system, engine cooling fan and motor, fan clutch, belt tensioner, radiator, heater core, thermostat, blower motor and various other parts. Well, now different companies have started covering other features like paint, under car corrosion, paint, etc. This warranty stands for 36000 miles or 3 years of purchase.

There are number of services provided to warranty holders these days. These are :-

Roadside Assistance benefits : 24/7 help with lockouts, tire changes, jump starts, fluid delivery, and towing

Rental benefits : provide a replacement vehicle when the covered vehicle is inoperable due to a covered mechanical breakdown

Trip Interruption benefits : provides you with meals and lodging when the covered vehicle is inoperable due to a covered mechanical breakdown

Coming on to extended warranty, it is after period warranty of the car. Once the original warranty that comes along with a new car expires, one can go for extended warrantiy. It cover all the terms of the first warranty, are also for a limited period of time and comes at a price. However, it may be also possible that the dealer from whom you are purchasing the car may himself provide you with extended warranty which is not the liability of the car manufacturer.

Do you need extended warranties?

The need for taking extended warranty depends on the time you are willing to own the vehicle, the deductible, your driving history, the warranty provider you trust, whether transferable or not, whether it provides any extra coverage and demand payment.

Depending on your needs it’s your decision to go for a extended warranty or not, and if going, then for what plan. So enjoy your car without loosing pocket.
